Vacuum Diagram for My Old Civic

At first glance the vacuum diagram for my '87 Civic looks like a shade-tree mechanic's worst nightmare.  Of course with a roll of masking tape, sharpie, and a lot of patience, it's not so bad.  I really have to marvel at the ingenuity of the honda engineers.  After staring a few minutes at the emissions chapter in my Haynes manual, I got over the initial shock of the complexity and started to appreciate how much was done with just intake vacuum.

One of The More Redneck Things I've Seen

My wife and I bought a 1987 Honda Civic off her brother for $200.  We got it cheap because it didn't pass smog.  When I went to look the car over, in order to determine why, I jacked up the car and went to look at the catalic converter.  When I got under the car, I noticed some very nice redneck work connecting the shifter to the shift linkage.  The civic has a manual transmission; the way the shifter is attached to the transmission is by a rod that connects to the shifter on one end and the transmission on the other.  Normally the shifter is connected to the rod by a bolt, but what I found when I looked under my car was that the shifter was connected to the rod with an allen wrench and safety wire wound around both ends.  I later learned that this was a road-side fix from a few years back.  Amazing that it lasted this long.  Also explains why the shifter was so sloppy.

Blue Screens of Death

At work I get caught in the crossfire of the Mac vs PC battle.  To be honest, I don't care.  I try not to take sides and the more I work with Windows 7 and OS X Lion the more reasons I find not to like either of them.  Over the last few weeks I've caught Windows 7 and Mac OS X crashing.   I was able to capture them in the act.  The Windows BSOD was on a computer right after imaging.  The Mac BSOD was on our Mac server.
